American Flag Wallpaper:

How to Decorate With American Stars and Stripes Flag Wallpaper

American flag wallpaper can be used for a variety of purposes – from scrapbooking to highlighting an accent wall and your patriotism.

For information on how you can use American flag paper for your home décor, keep reading for some great suggestions and how-to ideas.

Accent Pieces and Furniture Decoupage

A great way to incorporate some Americana into your design is to use American flag wallpaper to highlight an accent piece of furniture.

For example, a rustic sideboard comes alive with an American country touch when a few rows of red and white stripes are added to the lower shelf or back board.

While I wouldn’t suggest covering an entire piece of furniture in flag paper, you can use it sparingly to highlight certain elements.

Lining Drawers

If your home’s style is all about early Americana style, try lining your kitchen or dresser drawers, or even kitchen cupboard shelves with American flag wallpaper to make them pop. It’s a cute touch that’s not immediately visible, but will definitely make an impact once it’s discovered.

Highlight an Accent Wall

You can also use flag wallpaper to highlight an accent wall. While papering an entire room in an American flag may be overkill, using it on one wall or an upper half-wall can really make it shine.

If you’re going for a rustic Americana look, try weathering the paper by brushing a diluted stripper or bleach mixture over it.

This will weather the paper without pulling it off the wall, giving it a beautifully aged look that’s perfect for farmhouse or early Americana style.

Alternatively, if you’re using wallpaper that’s just stars or just stripes, you can get away with papering more walls.

For example, running red and white stripes along the bottom half of a room with a deep navy blue paint on the top can invoke the image of the American flag without being too overpowering.

When papering with flags or other symbols, less is often more. Instead of dominating a room with American flag imagery, use the flag (or elements of the flag) to invoke its spirit.

Different Types of U.S. Flag Wallpaper

You’ll typically find American flag wallpaper in several variations – the first being the mural which uses multiple strips of wallpaper to create one massive image of the full American flag. These are sold my mural retailers and usually sell for between $100 and $200.

The next variations are standard rolls of wallpaper in either the red and white stripes or the blue and white stars.

Rather than being a full flag, these types of American flag wallpaper incorporate elements of the American flag for a patriotic, yet subdued style. These are often significantly cheaper.
