Custom Search
Carpet remnants are the leftover bits of carpet after you do a full carpet installation. Unless you're an expert at carpet measuring and buying, you'll most likely be left with carpet remnants. But how do you dispose of these carpet remnants? Or better yet, how can you recycle or reuse them? To learn some creative uses for your carpet scraps, keep reading. Floor Protectors If you've ever had to move heavy furniture, you know that it can easily scratched and damage your floors. You may have even purchased expensive furniture sliders. But, did you know, a small square of carpet can do the job just as well? Simply cut several squares out of your carpet remnants and put one under each of your furniture legs. To protect hard floors, put the carpeted side down. To make sliding furniture easier on carpeted floors, put the carpeted side up. This will make moving your furniture much easier. Turn Your Remnants into Rugs If you have carpet remnants, you can easily have them changed into usable rugs simply by having the edges finished. Any upholsterer or carpet installer can finish the edges of carpet remnants to turn them into rugs. This is an affordable and simple process. You can use these drugs in your mud room, garage floor, playroom, or even as mats throughout the house. They're great for placing under furniture and as a way of protecting your floors. If you’re planning to use your carpet scraps to protect your garage or basement floor, you may not want to bother investing money into having the edges finished. Your finished rugs or carpet remnants can also be donated to local schools, daycare centers or churches. They often use these rugs as mats for the children to sit on during playtime or story time. Carpet a Small Space If you have enough carpet remnants left over, consider carpeting a small groomer space in your house. This is perfect if you have a storage space, closet, or small office that you'd like to carpet. If you're planning to use your remnants this way, plan ahead by purchasing a little extra. You can also plan ahead by cutting your carpet in such a way that your remnants will actually be usable in your small space. Dispose of Your Remnants Properly If you're unable to use your carpet remnants in your house, make sure you dispose of them properly. Your carpet installer will either take the carpet remnants away or tell you how and where you can dispose of them. If you install the carpet yourself, make sure you check your local municipality’s waste and recycling procedures for carpet scraps. See also: All Articles for Interior Creative Design
