Interior Creative Design :: Interior Painting Ideas Interior Painting Ideas:The 5 Best Interior Painting Tips and Ideas

Interior painting ideas are sometimes hard to develop on your own - should you paint an accent wall and if so, what color? Can you use paint to pull a room together and if so, how? Too often, many of us leave our homes beige or worse, builder's white, because we're too intimidated to paint and play with color. For 5 great interior painting ideas that will really pull out the beauty of your home, keep reading. Accent Walls If you want to play with color, but aren't ready to take the plunge - then try experimenting by painting an accent wall. For example, painting an entire room in peacock blue may be overpowering and far too harsh, but painting a single wall in the bright color can really pull it out and make the room “pop.” Most decorators recommend painting an end wall furthest from the door when painting an accent wall. This will elongate the room and also pull the color out into the hall or neighboring rooms. Painting Focal Pieces Your interior painting ideas don't have to be limited to walls. You can use paint to pull out focal pieces - like your coffee table or your fireplace mantle. For example, you may not want to immerse an entire room in ruby red, but painting a few tables red and adding a few patterned red pillows can utilize that bright red without allowing it to dominate the room. Creating the Illusion of Space One of the sneakiest interior painting ideas is using color to create the illusion of space. Typically, lighter or softer colors will make a room appear airier and larger while darker colors will pull it in and make it seem smaller (which isn't always a bad thing). Remember though, light doesn't have to mean white. You can achieve a light look with tinted whites that bring in elements of blue, green or red for an extra added effect. Creating Warmth or Coolness While color can trick the eye, it can also trick our general sense of a room. For example, a rich red room often makes us feel cozy and even warm while a cool, mint green space invokes a feeling of coolness and freshness. Depending on where a color sits on a color wheel (warm colors versus cool colors), it can change the impact and feeling of a room. Warm colors are, obviously, warm and cozy while cooler colors are fresher and cooler. Adding Texture to Paint Painting over textured wallpaper is one of my favorite interior painting ideas. This adds depth and texture to walls, pulling them out and giving them life instead of a bland flatness. It's a great technique that's perfect for craftsman homes.
