So often, people look on kitchen counter stools as sort of an afterthought; something you get after decorating their home, and they just need something to throw in.
Actually, kitchen counter stools are an important part of any home décor, and should not be overlooked in your efforts to create a good living space. You want them to fit in with your overall style, yet be comfortable, and also very sturdy.
Let us face it, if you have kids around, those kitchen counter stools are going to get treated pretty rough; they have got to be able to stand up to the stresses of use.
Measure Up
So, where to begin? Well, first, measure the height of your counters. After all, these days, kitchen counters do not come in a standard height.
You will want the kitchen counter stools you buy to not only fit nicely under the counter; there is also the issue of leaving enough room for people to get their legs under the counter. The last thing you want is people either banging their knees constantly or having to sit well back from the counter.
Style
Next, you need to look at the style of the stools. Do you want modern, classical, ones with a Polynesian theme, or something else entirely? Then there is the seat. Do you just want a cushioned seat that does not swivel at all?
If kids are going to be climbing all over these kitchen counter stools, you might want to consider getting that kind. It will mean less breakage over the long haul.
Of course, many types of kitchen counter stools are not backless, and those are quite popular. It is always nice to have a little bit of low-back support; it makes sitting there so much more comfortable.
Take up Arms?
Then there are arms. Some people have mixed feelings about getting kitchen counter stools that have arms. On the one hand, they can give greater comfort; give you a place to rest your elbow.
Yet, on the other hand, they make the stool rather confining. And, let us face it, people today are a bit – wider than they used to be. So, if you (or any members of your family) are rather – stout, you may want to opt for armless stools.
Also, if you are unsure about whether or not to get swivel kitchen counter stools, there are ones that only have a partial swivel to them. Some people like that. After all, it means the kids can’t sit in the kitchen counter stools and spend their time spinning around and around.
