DIY Magnetic Spice Rack
With a few basic tins and some strong magnets, you can make your own magnetic kitchen spice racks. Use either the tins that can be bought for wedding favors at a craft store or, for a more heavy-duty look and feel, try buying a set of watchmaker's cases (typically $10 for a set of 12).
Then, simply glue a strong magnet to the back of each case. If you like, add a label to each case and then stick them as you please to your fridge. Some spices do better away from heat and light, so avoid keeping large amounts above your steamy and hot stove.
The Drawer Spice Rack
To save space and minimize cupboard and wall clutter, consider moving your spice rack to a drawer. Using some blank stickers or a simple label making machine, print off labels for the tops of your spice containers, that way they'll be easy to find.
Then, simply place them standing up inside an empty or almost empty drawer. The innovative kitchen owner can even put them inside a small box, so all the spices can be pulled out and used during cooking or baking sessions.
Customized Containers
There are no rules that your kitchen spice racks and the spices within have to stay in the containers they came in. Whether it's corked test tubes, scientific sample jars, metal containers or vintage pill jars, you can put your spices in any container you want.
